CARBON
To adsorb means to take up onto a surface (as opposed to absorb = to take in). Adsorptive filter media are thus materials, which extract harmful substances from the water and attach or retain them. These substances are, for instance, chlorine in mains water, residues of water treatments or traces of cleaning agents, pesticides, colourants etc.
advice: Only use filter media Karbon by EHEIM for a few weeks, as the harmful substances are only attached and can loosen after some time and be reintroduced into the water. At the very least they should be changed regularly. Normally adsorptive filtration is only necessary during aquarium set-up or after treatments with medications.
