The supply of oxygen is especially recommended for poorly planted aquariums or those with a strong fish population. 

Also with cold and sea water pools or with keeping corresponding to oxygen-loving fish. 

Also, where a cover limits the air space above the water surface, additional air should be introduced.  The oxygen from this area would otherwise soon be used up.
